Photos of Porter This Week-Day 3

Porter loved the mountains, loved hiking, and found a lot of peace in doing so. We spent some time with our friends, the Shelleys, in Brigham City for memorial day 2009 and hiked to the "B" up on the mountainside. Let me just say that this was no easy jaunt. Porter flew up that mountain like a gazelle. I think he was the only one of our group to actually make it to the letter. The rest of us old folks just watched him and applauded his great energy.

Can you find him in this photo?  My camera was zoomed in as far as it would go.
This next photo was taken on the back side of Mount Timpanogos in the Summer of 2006. There is quite a story behind the following photos.  Porter long ago heard about a B-25 bomber that had crashed on the back side of the mountain back in 1955 and had always wanted to go find the wreckage.  He gathered a group of friends and 2 dads, one of those being his own, and went on the search.  Part of the group didn't want to hike any further but the 2 dads did and so did Porter, so they split off and continued trudging up the steep mountainside.  Mark, Dave and Porter searched quite awhile and had just about given up and were ready to turn back.  Porter was bound and determined to find it and continued searching when he came upon this piece of engine.  That find renewed their energy and determination so they continued on.  Porter, continued up higher with his youthful legs over a ridge and found the first part of the engine and on another ridge a second part.  Way to hang in there Porter!!  I'm so glad you got to fulfill this dream.

When I look at these photos of Heavenly Father's beautiful creations of mountains and flowers I am in awe of the grandeur of it all.  I can't help but think that Porter gets to enjoy views like this on a daily basis.  What a lucky boy.  We look forward to the day of enjoying it with him again too.

OMGosh, what beautiful scenery! He had such stick-to-it-iveness! That's a great lesson for each of us to learn and he found the "prize" at the end. His tenacity paid off. What great memories. The mountainside is incredible! Such beautiful memories.
